Is a daily tanning moisturizer right for you? Maybe you've tried self-tanning lotions with less than stellar results. Or, you don't have the time to keep up with the application of regular self-tanning lotions. You can get a tan with much less effort by using a daily tanning moisturizer!
Daily tanning moisturizers offer many benefits. With the application of one product, you get a moisturizer, a tan and sometimes other products. A more natural “tan” is easier to maintain since the tan is subtle enough that daily applications don't result in a dark tan. Applying the moisturizer is like applying lotion, except that a light touch is still needed in areas such as knees and elbows. This product is much less prone to streaking and other uneven tanning issues than regular self-tanners. Also, the product dries quickly so you don't have to wait thirty minutes to an hour before you can get dressed. The tan that develops is noticeable, but not dark, without the orange or yellow tones that can develop from some self-tanners.
Another advantage is that many of the daily tanning moisturizers contain sunscreen. Since the standard medical advice is now to apply sunscreen every day, this is a major benefit. Some daily tanning moisturizers include other products such as body-firming lotion. Still another plus is that daily tanning moisturizers do not stain clothes or sheets. This is often a problem with regular self-tanning products.
Unfortunately, there are several disadvantages to daily tanning moisturizers. You still can have mixed results in the “tan” obtained. A light touch is needed over knees and elbows, or darker patches may develop. The product must be dry before putting on tight clothing such as socks or underwear because, again, darker areas can develop. Also, the scent of certain products can be objectionable to some. This is a matter of personal preference, but some definitely do not smell like regular moisturizing lotions. With one application per day, several days can be needed for the maximum tan to develop. Note that the tan obtained from this product is often not nearly as dark as what can be obtained from other tanning products.
Another drawback is that the moisturizing effects are not as good as can be obtained with a standard moisturizing product. If you have had issues with skin breakouts from other self-tanning or moisturizing products, this product may also aggravate skin conditions. Applying this product more than once per day may result in uneven tanning, so you still must have a regular sunscreen available for those days when you need to reapply sunscreen such as at the beach.
Experimentation may be needed with the various colors of daily tanning moisturizers. Those targeted to fair complexioned people may offer too subtle of a tan. In that case, bumping up to another level such as medium can often get the tan color desired.
Daily tanning moisturizers offer an easy, low-cost, safe way to tan for many people. Try one for yourself and soon you'll look like you've just got back from a beach vacation!
